Woman of Uganda Network is WIN circle in Uganda. Together with other local partner organisations and NGO’s we build a “virtual grassroots network” between Ugandan and US women for on-going discussion and learning exchange that helps us to actively pursue common concerns for joint advocacy and grassroots democracy.
Prepare women and support them for leadership positions in the public and private sectors.
Provide women with skills training and gender awareness for increased and more effective participation in decision-making.
Identify issues of critical concern to women and address them through advocacy, skills training, research and information sharing.
Educate women about their human civic rights.
In January 2001 eight Ugandan women met with the California Women’s Agenda at the Oakland YWCA to discuss issues of economic justice and development..From Napa to San Diego, the Ugandan delegation met in small groups to converse and dialogue with over 600 Californians.From there started WIN Uganda circle. These women riders brought this initiative to Uganda and our work and collaboration to stand for woman’s rights local. This initiative educate and empower woman.
We connect the Ugandan CIRCLE with “U.S. Women Connect” (USWC), the U.S. national clearinghouse for progressive women’s organizations.
Encourage collaboration of women leaders in the Eastern African sub-region and internationally through information exchange, seminars, workshops and conferences.
Cooperate with other women organisations in working toward the goal of gender equality.
1. Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. declares Uganda Women’s Day in San Francisco. (2001)
WIN has hosted a group women from Uganda and gave them an opportunity to participate in conversations about woman’s wrights and share their stories. Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr came to the event to meet with Ugandan women and promised to build strong relationship between Uganda and San Francisco through WIN.
2. Ugandan women’s land rights. (2005)
Empowering women of Uganda through land grants for rural women survivors of domestic violence and hiv/aids. The project build consensus among cultural leaders and rural women survivors of Domestic Violence for the documentation and improvement of customary Law regarding rights and obligations of parties during marriage and access to property.
